A Brief History of Filofax

What most people fail to realise is that the history of the Filofax dates all the way back to 1921. Once the concept of the Filofax Personal Organiser was bought back to the UK a London based company was created to market and sell these personal organisation systems and in 1930 they registered the trademark Filofax. The name was cleverly decided upon based on the description of the File of Facts the company was selling.

It was not until 50 years later that the appeal of owning a Filofax boomed and in the mid 80s it was reborn as a business necessity featuring a diary and year planner, there were also forms for business expenses, financial data and world time zones. The new Filofax was now a stylish binder in luxurious leather. The Filofax had become an in indispensable organizer and status symbol for the 80s being sold in the most prestigious stores world wide including Harrods, and Bloomingdales. The Filofax continues to be a must have for many business professionals today, even with the emergence of PDAs and smart phones such as the Blackberry.
