The book will be of interest to nurses who trained at the Liverpool Royal Infirmary, to patients who received treatment at the hospital and to staff who worked in the hospital. The Nurses' League was formed by Miss Mary Jones, Matron, with the aim of forming a bond between nurses who trained at the Liverpool Royal Infirmary. The distinctive silver L.R.I hospital badge, so proudly worn by 'Royal' nurses, confirms the bond formed with the hospital and colleagues during training. It never fails to rekindle fond memories when it is recognized by 'Royal' nurses throughout the world.The history of the Royal Infirmary has been synonymous with health developments in Liverpool. Britain's first Public Health Team was appointed in Liverpool in 1847 and the city has produced medical personnel whose pioneering work has influenced medical practice internationally. It is, therefore, significant that the 75th Anniversary of the Liverpool Royal Infirmary Nurses' Training School Nurses' League coincides with Liverpool's 800th Birthday celebrations in 2007 and recognition as the European Capital of Culture, 2008.
