The products offered by WHSmith.co.uk are arranged by category and then broken down into genres, for example from Music to Jazz.

Books

WHSmith.co.uk lists every freely available book that is currently in print in the UK.

As it is not possible for every book to be kept in stock many have to be ordered from the publisher and as a consequence books that we list will show different availability times.

When you click on the product page of a book you will see the book’s title, author’s name, publisher’s name, the ISBN, publication date, and the type of binding of the book e.g. whether it is hardback, paperback or clothbound.

With each book there will also be an estimated dispatch time, e.g. in stock, 1-2 weeks, pre-order. We aim to dispatch all orders within the time frame estimated at the time your order is placed.

Where possible we will always include a synopsis and cover image of the book, plus any customer reviews that have been submitted.

If you require a book that is out of print and therefore not available to order from WHSmith.co.uk you may be able to purchase a copy through our partner site Abe Books. Here you will find more than 50 million titles offered by over 12,000 book dealers around the country and beyond.

Stationery

WHSmith.co.uk offers a wide range of WHSmith and branded stationery for school, students and your home office.

For each product we present its description, specification and up to three images to inform your choice.

With each product we display an estimated dispatch time, e.g. in stock, usually dispatched within 24 hours. We aim to dispatch all orders within the period estimated at the time you place an order.

Gifts & Cards

WHSmith.co.uk offers an inspiring range of gift ideas and gift vouchers.

Personalised gifts are unique. For children we offer personalised story books, clocks and school stationery.

WHSmith.co.uk offers magazine subscriptions for set-up online or in presentation gift packs.

Magazine Subscriptions are for a period of 6, 12 or 24 months. Great savings are available on over 450 titles.

Subscription Gift Packs are fixed period subscriptions delivered in a presentation pack and available for a particular title or you or your recipient can chose from a themed selection.

You pay for the pack and then you or your recipient register the subscription with WHSmith.

DVD

WHSmith.co.uk lists thousands of DVDs and videos that are on general release in the UK.

When you click on the product page of a DVD or video you will see the product’s title, whether it is in DVD or VHS format, lead actor’s name, the product code, release date and classification certificate.

With each product there will also be an estimated dispatch time, e.g. in stock, 1-2 weeks, pre-order etc and we aim to dispatch any orders within the time frame estimated at the time an order was placed.

Where possible we will always include a synopsis and cover image of the DVD/VHS, plus any customer reviews that have been submitted.

DVD & Video Formats

WHSmith.co.uk provides videos in two main formats: Digital Versatile Discs (Region 2 DVD videos) and VHS Video Cassettes (VHS PAL videos).

There are a number of variations for both formats. WHSmith.co.uk sells only those that meet the recognised standards of the United Kingdom.

If you live outside the U.K. it is advisable to confirm that your equipment is capable of playing the videos sold on this site before you order them.

Using digital technology to provide excellent sound and picture quality and the DVD format has become the standard for home entertainment.

To control the release of DVDs, discs are manufactured with one of six "Region Codes" and will only play on DVD Players with the matching code.

Region 2 DVDs and players are available in Europe, South Africa, Japan and The Middle East (inc. Egypt). WHSmith.co.uk sells only Region 2 DVDs.

If you are unsure which region your DVD player is coded for, check the documentation that came with your equipment, or contact the manufacturer.

• All the videos sold on this site are supplied in VHS PAL format. This is the standard VHS format used throughout Europe
• In America the NTSC format is used and PAL cassettes cannot be used on NTSC equipment
• In France, the SECAM format is used. While it is possible to use PAL cassettes on SECAM systems, they will be shown in black and white and not colour
• All British video recorders should be PAL compatible. If you are unsure, check with the supplier of your equipment

UMD (Universal Media Disc) format

UMD (Universal Media Disc) is a medium for playing films on the PSP (PlayStation Portable) handheld console.

A UMD disc is NOT compatible with any other handheld games console or any DVD player.

Blu-ray and HD DVD

These formats are the latest generation of DVD. They offer an even greater quality of picture.

Film Certificates

The British Board of Film Classification sets guidelines for all films released in the UK and assesses which certificate each film should receive.

Universal (particularly suitable for young children)

This video is suitable for everyone but is especially suitable for young children.

Universal

Suitable for viewers of all ages. There will be nothing unsuitable for children in this film.

Parental Guidence

Some scenes may be unsuitable for young children. This film may contain some violence, mild swearing or brief scenes of nudity.

12 Certificate

Only suitable for viewers over 12 years old. 12 certificate films may contain some mild scenes of violence, or references to teenage experience, but without physical detail. There may be slight use of strong language.

15 Certificate

Only suitable for viewers over 15 years old. 15 certificate films may have an adult theme and may contain brief scenes of violence and sexual activity which are unsuitable for younger viewers. May contain strong language.

18 Certificate

Can only be supplied to and is only suitable for viewers of 18 years and over. 18 certificate films will have an adult theme and may well contain graphic scenes of sex or violence and some explicit sexual language.

When you click on the product page of a CD you will see the CD’s title, artist or band name, product code, release date, music label and whether the album contains explicit lyrics.

With each CD there will also be an estimated dispatch time, e.g. in stock, 1-2 weeks, pre-order. We aim to dispatch all orders within the time frame estimated at the time the order was placed.

Where possible we will always include a track listing and cover image of the CD, plus any customer reviews that have been submitted.

Gaming & PC

WHSmith.co.uk lists hundreds of video games for PC, X-Box, X-Box 360, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, Playstation 2, Playstation 3 and PSP.

When you click on the product page of a game you will see the game’s title, it’s platform (e.g. PSP) product code and release.

With each game there will also be an estimated dispatch time, e.g. in stock, 1-2 weeks, pre-order. We aim to dispatch all orders within the time frame displayed at the time the order was placed.
