'The Lord of the Rings' Description

Three-volume paperback boxed set of J.R.R. Tolkien's classic masterpiece, packaged in the classic black covers designed by Tolkien himself. Sauron, the Dark Lord, has gathered to him all the Rings of Power -- the means by which he intends to rule Middle-earth. All he lacks in his plans for dominion is the One Ring -- the ring that rules them all -- which has fallen into the hands of the hobbit, Bilbo Baggins. In a sleepy village in the Shire, young Frodo Baggins finds himself faced with an immense task, as his elderly cousin Bilbo entrusts the Ring to his care. Frodo must leave his home and make a perilous journey across Middle-earth to the Cracks of Doom, there to destroy the Ring and foil the Dark Lord in his evil purpose. Since it was first published in 1954, 'The Lord of the Rings' has been a book people have treasured. Steeped in unrivalled magic and otherworldliness, its sweeping fantasy has touched the hearts of young and old alike.

I first read this when I was young, and I didn't understand it. When I was eleven I read it, and I loved it. Everything about it is good (unless you count how it slowly begins to drag on in book two and carries on, increasing in slowness)and it's brilliantly told. I absoloutley adore it, and the words of men or women are not fit to say how good it is. I love the plot about how the almighty ring must be destroyed and the only place that it can be done is throwing it into the heart of a volcano in the heart of his kingdom.P.S. Don't read it to 7 year old or under unless they're going to take their GCSEs and get a decent grade at 12 1/2.

This is one of those books that I like to read over and over again. Each time I read it my imagination is carried off to a far off time and place. It is a book that is often funny, sometimes sad, but the imagination is always carried away. It is one of those books that makes you think that you are one of the ringbearer's circle of companions, and it is also a book that we shall never see the like of again. Long live Aragorn (Strider) the king, Frodo, son of Drogo, Balin, Gandalf, Merry, Pippin, Treebeard, Legolas, Golum, and of course the real hero of the plot (to my mind anyway)Sam Gamgee.
