If you don’t find what you are looking for by searching you may have success by browsing our Music categories. If you cannot find the title it may not currently be in production.
Artists, Album Titles, Composers, Catalogue Numbers and Keywords associated with a CD can be searched upon in the quick search box at the top of each page. Use the drop-down menu to narrow your search to music. For example -
- entering “Beatles” finds all CDs by The Beatles
- entering “Rumours” finds Rumours CD by Fleetwood Mac
- entering “Beethoven” finds all CDs composed by Beethoven
- entering a Catalogue Number will take you directly to that product
Once your search has returned a list of products you can further narrow the search by category or price band by using the links on the left hand side of the page. The list of CDs will be ordered by their relevance to the terms you searched upon; you can reorder this list by bestsellers, alphabetically by title or artist, by release date or by price by using the drop down box menu at the top of the page. You can search within your results using the search box at the bottom of the page.
The Advanced Search enables you to search by specific attributes of a CD. By entering terms in several fields you further narrow the search. For instance, if you search on Artist – “Meat Loaf” and Album Title “Bat Out of Hell”, you will return all Bat Out of Hell CDs in the series.
On the Advanced Music Search page, enter the Artist name. For example “John Lennon” will return all CDs by John Lennon. If you do not know the full name you can enter keywords. For instance "Rolling" will return all artists with Rolling in the name e.g. Rolling Stones. “Lennon” will return all CDs by John and Julian Lennon.
If you do not know the spelling of the Artist’s name, type the start then use an asterisk. For instance, to search for Luciano Pavarotti you could type “Luc* Pav*”.
On the Advanced Music Search page, enter the Album Title name to find that specific album. On the Advanced Music Search page, enter the Track Title name to find that specific track and the album(s) that the track is on . Eg. “While my guitar gently weeps” will result in The Beatles “White Album” as well as Beatles compilation albums and cover versions.
On the Advanced Music Search page you can search by Catalogue Number. Every CD is identified by a catalogue number. The catalogue number is usually found on the spine of the CD. There is no need to complete any other fields if you know the catalogue number of the CD you are looking for.
On the Advanced Music Search page you can search by Label. For example, entering “Motown" will result in a list of all titles on the Motown label. You can reorder this list by bestsellers, alphabetically, price or by release date by using the drop down box menu at the top of the page.
With Classical music, broad searches are the most reliable - try to enter information into at least two boxes to minimise unwanted results. For example, searching for Artist / Composer “Holst” and Title “Planets” will return all recordings of this piece. Whilst searching on Title “Planets” and Artist / Composer “Royal Philharmonic” will return performances of the piece by the RPO.
