Ten Little Princesses by Mike Brownlow, the follow-up book to Ten Little Pirates. With rhythmic rhymes throughout, this story is perfect for parents and children to read aloud while the counting narrative is ideal for practising numeracy together. Featuring ten recognisable princesses that your children will love, including Snow White, Rapunzel and Red Riding Hood, the story follows ten little princesses as they make their way to a fairy tale ball. But with witches, wolves and trolls in the dark forest that the princesses must cross, it doesn't seem likely that all the princesses will make it to the ball on time.

Where do you get your inspiration from?
The idea for Little Pirates just popped into my head while I was wandering round a beautiful Cornish garden one afternoon with my wife. But that's the only time that's ever happened to me! Mostly I start with a vague theme, or in the case of Little Robots, a simple image, and add to the idea in little bits. Sometimes that can take a day or two, other times a lot longer. That's the beauty of carrying a notebook with you at all times. You can write down thoughts as they come into your head, and build on them. Quite often inspiration can come from unexpected places. Walking around Cambridge one day, I noticed a little girl carrying a cello case that was much bigger than she was, and that set me thinking of a story about a young girl beginning her cello playing career and her friendship with a much older lady coming to the end of hers. A recent visit to a primary school reminded me how small Reception year children are, and that's started me writing a story about a small penguin trying to make friends with much bigger animals.
What inspired you to write Ten Little Princesses?
Ten Little Pirates was proving to be a very popular, and my editor, Frances Elks, asked if I could write a sequel. But this time, instead of writing about pirates, we thought it would be fun to explore the world of fairy tales and nursery rhymes. I came up with the idea of Ten Little Princesses battling their way through an enchanted forest and coming up against wolves and witches, dragons and giants, and it seemed very appealing.
