Julia Donaldson was raised in London and went on to study Drama and French at Bristol University where she met her husband, Malcom. They spent some of their time busking together, which led her to a job as a singer and songwriter for the BBC. One of Julia's songs for TV, A Squash and a Squeeze, was made into a book in 1993, illustrated by Alex Scheffler. The pair have worked together ever since. Julia is now a critically-acclaimed author, perhaps best-known for her much-loved picture books The Gruffalo and What the Ladybird Heard. The Gruffalo is now considered a must-have on any small child's bookshelf and has sold over three million copies since it was published 15 years ago. It was also voted Great Britain's favourite bedtime story on Radio 2 and was made into a hugely successful animation, broadcast for the first time on Christmas Day, 2009.
Julia's latest story, The Scarecrows' Wedding, is her eagerly-anticipated new picture book. Julia resides in Scotland with Malcom. More information about Julia can be found on her official website: www.juliadonaldson.co.uk
