'Under an old tree, in a bleak and distant corner of the woods, they came across the mammoth. "Who's that?" whispered the squirrel. "The mammoth," whispered the ant, who even knew the names of animals that didn't exist.' These enchanting stories of friendship, memory, dancing and cake conjure up a world of imagination where anything can happen. Perfectly complemented by Jessica Ahlberg's delicate illustrations, these charming stories will captivate readers of all ages. 'The thoughtful and unusual stories have a lightness of touch making these poetic parables a delight for anyone lucky enough to read them.' -- The Bookseller
Toon Tellegen is one of Holland's most celebrated writers for both children and adults. He started his literary career as a poet, and began writing for children in the mid-1980s. In his dreamlike animal stories, Toon explores his fascination with the incomprehensible and unpredictable side of human behaviour. A G.P. for many years, he now writes full time from his home in Amsterdam. Jessica Ahlberg, daughter of the acclaimed author/illustrator team, Janet and Allan Ahlberg, studied fine art at Winchester College and has gone on to illustrate several books for children. She likes, among other things, writing letters, looking at maps, reading books, doing DIY and making cakes. She lives in Brighton and loves walking by the sea and sometimes swimming in it.
