Much of what is written about acting and actors has been written by academics and directors, but, celebrity biographies apart, little is published about the thoughts and creative processes of working - and, indeed, non-working actors. In Actors' Voices, Patrick O'Kane interviews a number of actors to explore the creative contribution that actors make to the theatre process. Interviewees are all well known British stage and screen actors and include Claire Price, Tim Crouch, Jim Norton, Paterson Joseph, Simon Russell Beale and Gerard McArthur. These interviews reveal a range of very personal reflections - part biographical, part process analysis and part contemplation of art, theatre and an actor's role, within the artistic landscape - based on the evidence of each individual's articulated experience. O'Kane really gets to the essence of what the reality of being an actor in the theatre is (as opposed to the notion that the public might have of fame) and works to unravel what it means to be an actor.
Patrick O'Kane was born in Belfast & trained as an actor at the Central School. He has played leading roles at the major theatres in both the UK and Ireland, most recently Macbeth at The Royal Shakespeare Company, Hamlet at The Abbey Theatre Dublin and Dr Faustus at The Royal Exchange Theatre.
