This book argues that where other social interventions (ie the juvenile justice system, DARE, ""Scared Straight"", etc) have failed to adequately address the problems of at-risk teenagers, inexpensive and easily-implemented after-school theatre programs may have more success. The author suggests that low-cost, non-coercive theatre programs can demonstrably lower incidences of youth violence, drug use, teen pregnancy, and gang membership.
Philip Zwerling is the director of the creative writing program at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. He is the author of three books and numerous journal, magazine and newspaper articles.
