Carlo di Angelis's wife Sophie is in hospital for a routine operation. Outside the hospital Carlo's old flame Julie Bloomfield falls into his arms, the woman he loved and thought he'd lost a lifetime ago. Meanwhile 150 miles away in Bradford, Tarik is falling under the influence of Islamic extremists. When Julie's daughter Rachel proves to be no carefree innocent somebody's resolve will waver and somebody else's resolve will harden. For this triangle will not be eternal, but terminal. Will Carlo damn himself in Sophie's eyes or in Julie's? Who should he love? Should he hate himself for welcoming Julie's support or Rachel's advances? Will Tarik run into one of them, or into Rachel? Will Sophie wake up in time, or had she better not? Life and love will hang in the balance until either a pretty young bombshell or a suicide bomber forces the issue in a climax of devastating poignancy.
