Arna Bontemps, editor of "American Negro Poetry" and author of numerous other works, was a novelist, poet, essayist, editor, librarian, and public relations director.Jack Conroy was the founder of "The Anvil, " the Depression- era proletarian magazine famous for launching the careers of such writers as Langston Hughes, Richard Wright, and William Carlos Williams. He was also the author of "The Disinherited: A Novel of the 1930s" (University of Missouri Press).
