About AuthorJulian Barling is Associate Dean and Professor at the Queen's School of Business. He is responsible for rhe Ph.D,M.Sc and Research programs in the School of Business. Dr. Barling is author of of several books, including Employment, Stress and Family Functioning (1990,Wiley & Sons), The Union and Its Members: A Psychological Approach (with Clive Fullagar and Kevin Kelloway, 1992, Oxford University Press), and Changing Employment Relations: Behavioral and Social Perspectives (with Lois Tetrick, 1995, American Psychological Association), andYouth and Employment (with Kevin Kelloway, forthcoming, American Psychological Association). Dr. Barling served as co-editor (with Kevin Kelloway) of the Sage Publication series ,Advanced Topics in Organizational Behavior, is consulting editor of the Journal of Organizational Behavior, and on the editorial boards of the Journal of Occupational Health Psychology, Stress Medicine and the Canadian Journal of Administrative Sciences. From 1989-1991, he was the chairperson of the Advisory Council on Occupational Health and Safety to the Ontario Minister of Labour. In 1995 and 1997, he received the annual awards for "Excellence in Research" from the School of Business, Queen's University. E. Kevin Kelloway is the Canada Research Chair in Occupational Health Psychology at Saint Mary's University. He received his PhD in Organizational Psychology from Queen's University (Kingston, ON) and taught for eight years at the University of Guelph. In 1999 he moved to Saint Mary's University where he also holds the position of Professor of Psychology. He was the founding director of the CN Centre for Occupational Health and Safety and the PhD program in Business Administration (Management). He was also a founding principal of the Centre for Leadership Excellence at Saint Mary's. An active researcher, he is the author/editor of 12 books and over 100 research articles and chapters. He is a Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science, the Canadian Psychological Association and of the Society for Industrial/Organizational Psychology. Michael R. Frone is Research Associate Professor, Department of Psychology, State University of New York at Buffalo. He is also Senior Research Scientist, Research Insititue on Additctions, State University of New York at Buffalo. Dr. Frome is Associate Editor of the Journal of Occupational Health Psychology. He is on the editorial boards of five refereed journals, and is the author of numerous articles. He is co-editor (with Julian Barling, APA forthcoming) of Psychology of Workplace Safety. Andrew Pettigrew is Professor of Strategy and Organisation at the Said Business School and Senior Golding Fellow at Brasenose College, both at the University of Oxford. He is a leading expert on strategy and change in both the public and private sectors. He launched his career with a highly-regarded ten-year study of chemical company ICI, connecting economic business research with a broader sociological approach. He has revolutionised the study of organisational development by combining historical, political and social contextual information with statistical and quantitative data. Professor Pettigrew's current research interests include the management of strategic change processes within organisations and the relationship between leadership, change and performance. Professor Pettigrew's background in sociology and anthropology, where contextual and historical study are vital, informs his research methodology. Pettigrew believes that his work is to 'catch reality in flight' and to 'give time to time', encouraging researchers to emulate historians and 'reconstruct past contexts, processes, and decisions'. Alongside his pure research, Pettigrew is concerned with practice and has been engaged internationally in consulting and advisory roles, from consulting on strategic change and management in the NHS to working with the boards of top corporations. He is Chairman of the Academic Sounding Board for McKinsey's worldwide organisation practice. Pettigrew also studies the processes, practices and performance of collaborative academic research, addressing the ways business schools and researchers themselves deal with decision-making, innovation and strategic change management. He works with both the European Foundation for Management Development (EMFD) and the UK's Economics and Social Research Council (ESRC) to understand and improve research in the social sciences and management. Pettigrew is author or co-author of 15 books and over 100 journal articles. He is recognised within the management community as one of the foremost researchers and practitioners in strategy and change management. In 2003 Pettigrew became only the third business school professor to be made a Fellow of the British Academy. He is a Fellow of both the British Academy of Management, and the US Academy of Management. He is also the only non-North American to be named a Distinguished Scholar of the US Academy of Management. He is the recipient of a Richard Whipp Lifetime Achievement Award by the British Academy of Management, and in 2009 he was awarded an OBE for services to higher education. Pettigrew has a degree in sociology at Liverpool University, and a PhD in industry sociology from Manchester Business School. Pettigrew lectured at Yale before returning to the UK, where he launched the Centre for Corporate Strategy and Change at Warwick University in 1985 and served as Dean of the University of Bath's School of Management until he joined the Said Business School in 2008. Pettigrew has been awarded honorary doctorates from the University of Linkoping in Sweden (1989), University of Liverpool (2010) and Copenhagen Business School (2010). Prof Howard Thomas has developed a global career in business and management education spanning almost 50 years. He began his career as a Graduate Tutor and Assistant Lecturer in the London School of Economics in 1964. His teaching and research interests include Business Policy and Strategic Management and he is a distinguished Professor of Strategic Management. Richard Whittington teaches strategy at the Said Business School and New College, where he is Millman Fellow in Management Robert Wensley is Emeritus Professor of Policy and Marketing at the Warwick Business School. Professor at Warwick since 1986 and Chair of the School from 1989 to 1994, and Chair of the Faculty of Social Studies from 1997 to 1999. Most recently Director of the AIM Research initiative from 2004 to 2011. He was previously with RHM Foods, Tube Investments and the London Business School and was visiting Professor at UCLA (twice) and University of Florida. He was Chair of the Council of the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations from 1998 until 2003 and a member of the Sunningdale Institute (2008 -11) He is a Fellow of the British Academy of Management (FBAM), the Chartered Institute of Marketing (FCIM) and The Academy of Social Sciences (FAcSS). He was awarded the BAM Richard Whipp Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012 and previously awarded the 1981 and 1988 Alpha Kappa Psi prize for the most outstanding article in the US Journal of Marketing and the Millennium Prize for the best paper in the Journal of Marketing Management He was appointed to the Council of the ESRC from 2001 to 2004 and was a Board member of the ESRC Research Grants Board from 1991 to 1995. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Warburg Institute and the Academic Advisory Board of the Chartered Management Institute. Over his academic career, he has been involved with consultancy and management development for many major organisations. Kelly G. Shaver is Professor of Psychology at the College of William & Mary. From 1977-1979, he was Program Director for Social and Developmental Psychology in the Division of Behavioral and Neural Sciences at the National Science Foundation. He currently serves as an advisor to FamilyCareAmerica.com, is a founding director of MBATechConnect.org, and serves as a member of the international advisory board of the Entrepreneurship and Small Business Research Institute (ESBRI) in Stockholm where he was a Visiting Professor during 1999-2000. For 5 years Dr. Shaver was Editor of Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice and has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology and the Journal of Personality. He currently serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Applied Social Psychology, Entrepreneurship and Regional Development, the Journal of Developmental Entrepreneurship. He is the author of seven books, coauthor or coeditor of five others, and is author or coauthor of over 140 papers and research articles on attribution processes and entrepreneurship. His paper on the motivations of nascent entrepreneurs was the winner of the Babson Kauffman Entrepreneurship Research Conference Best Paper Award for 2000, and his course on the psychology of entrepreneurship won the 2000 McGraw-Hill/Irwin Award for Innovation in Entrepreneurship Pedagogy. He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Society, a member of the Society of Experimental Social Psychology, and the current (2003-2004) Chair of the Entrepreneurship Division of the Academy of Management. Schulze Chair in Entrepreneurship at the University of St. Thomas (Minneapolis). Previously she held the Coleman Foundation Chair in Entrepreneurial Studies, Director of the Center for the Study of Entrepreneurship, and was founding Director of the Center for Family Business at Marquette University. Her research program focuses on the emergence of organizations with a special emphasis on women owned initiatives. She has published extensively on organizations, strategy and entrepreneurship. Babson Chair in Entrepreneurial Studies at Babson College (Wellesley, Massachusetts), a Visiting Professor in Entrepreneurship at the London Business School, and the director of the annual Babson-Kauffman Entrepreneurship Research Conference (1996-1999). He was the Coleman Foundation Chair in Entrepreneurial Studies at Marquette University (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) for five years (1990-1995). Reynolds is now coordinator of the Entrepreneurial Research Consortium (ERC), an international collaboration of 31 university units, government agencies and foundations implementing national longitudinal studies of business start-ups in the U.S. and eight other countries. As coordinating principal investigator of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) project, he is coordinating 10 national teams in the first analysis of the contributions of the entrepreneurial sector to national economic growth.
