In the span of a century, radio technology advanced from spark transmitters, through analog radios based on vacuum tubes to solid state radios to finally software defined radios where most of the transmit and receive functionalities are implemented as programs running on specialized microprocessors. In recent years, cognitive radio emerged, which combines a software-defined radio with an intelligent agent, and promises to deliver a new level of functionality.
Leszek Lechowicz has over 15 years of experience in the automated test equipment industry, where he held a variety of technical positions. He currently is with Bin1ATE, LLC as the director of software development. He earned his Ph.D. in computer engineering from Northeastern University, Boston, MA. Mieczyslaw M. Kokar is a professor in the department of electrical and computer engineering at Northeastern University, Boston, MA. He earned his Ph.D. in computer systems engineering from Wroclaw University of Technology, Poland.
