About the Author
Dr James Zhijian Shen is an expert in ceramics science and engineering, specializing in designing and synthesising of advanced ceramics and composites with tailored microstructures and chemistry for structural and functional applications. He holds a position as a Professor, Noble Biocare Chair of Materials Innovation, at Arrhenius Laboratory, Stockholm University, where he also serves as an area manager of Biomaterials in the Berzelii Center EXSELENT on Porous Materials strategically supported by the Swedish Governmental Agencies VR and VINNOVA. He has authored more than 250 published papers on ceramics and ceramic processes, edited one book, Advanced Ceramics for Dentistry (published by Elsevier in 2013, ISBN: 9780123946195), and has filed 16 patents. He was educated in China, received his PhD on Materials Physics and Chemistry in 1990 and was appointed as an Associated Professor in 1992 at Zhejiang University. In 1993, he moved to Sweden, initially as a postdoctoral researcher, latterly was appointed as a senior researcher, Associated Professor and Professor in the same Institution he has always been working till now. In 2011, he organized the 1st symposia of advanced ceramics and ceramic processes for dentistry in Stockholm. In 2013, he received Pfeil Award in UK and was awarded as a Fellow of the European Ceramic Society. Dr. Yihong Liu is an associate professor in the Department of Prosthodontics, School of Stomatology in Peking University, China, where she received a B.S. in 1993 and a PhD in 2007. Between 2008 and 2009 she spent one year in the Department of Materials and Environmental Chemistry, Stockholm University, Sweden, as a postdoctoral researcher, carrying out research on failure analysis and elucidating the fracture origins of bilayered dental ceramic composites. She is a member of Chinese Association of Stomatology, of Chinese Ceramic Society. Besides being engaged in clinical care of dental patients Dr. Liu is a dedicated researcher and teacher in prosthodontics. She is a dentist with well recognized expertise on biomechanics and biomaterials. Dr. Hailan Feng is a professor in the Department of Prosthodontics, School of Stomatology in Peking University. She received a Humboldt Research Fellowship and acted as a postdoctoral researcher in School of Dentistry, University of Erlangen, Germany, between 1990 and 1992. She was a senior visiting scholar in School of Dentistry, University of Aachen, Germany, in 1998, and in School of Dentistry, Karolinska Institute, Sweden, in 2006. Dr. Feng is the editor of two Chinese Journals, "Chinese Journal of Stomatology" and "Journal of Modern Stomatology". She is the former Chair of the Department of Prosthodontics, School of Stomatology in Peking University. She is also the former President of Chinese Society of Prosthodontics.
