About Author

Ron F. Smith is a professor of journalism at the Universityof Central Florida in Orlando. Smith has worked for newspapers inIndiana, Ohio and Florida, and published numerous articles inJournalism Quarterly, Newspaper Research Journal, CollegiateJournalist, Quill and Journalism Eudcator. He was aresearch fellow at the Poynter Institute and co-authored Gropingfor Ethics in Journalism with Gene Goodwin, assuming soleauthorship on the fourth edition. Loraine M. O'Connell is the Deputy Lifestyle Editorat The Orlando Sentinel, where she has worked since 1985.Her other positions have included metro and national copy editor, wire editor for the Newsfeatures Department, and columnist andfeature writer. O'Connell's work has been published innewspapers across the country, including The Dallas MorningNews, The Boston Globe and The Washington Post
