The Collector's Edition of Gotham City includes the book and this print signed and numbered by Luca Campigotto: View from the Rockfeller Center, 2005, 35 x 28 cm. This photograph has been printed in a limited edition of 40 copies and is housed in a linen cloth box.
Luca Campigotto (born 1962) has been photographing dramatic natural settings since the 1980s, from the indian deserts to the white vistas of Lapland, and historical sites from Angkor to Easter Island. Gotham City presents the photographs Campigotto has taken in and of New York. This is a Gotham City reconstructed from memory, often infused with a glassy light and an atmosphere sometimes glowing with vivid colors, other times wrapped in muted hues. It is a sentimental journey in the big apple of our imagination, from the East river bridges to the Empire State Building, from the Guggenheim Museum to Canal Street, from Times Square to the old docks of Brooklyn, each shimmering image looking like the backdrop for a movie or comic book.
Luca Campigotto was born in Venice in 1962 and lives between Milan and New York City. After earning a master's degree in modern history with a thesis on the era of great geographical discoveries, he has specialized in the photography of landscapes and architecture linked to the theme of travel. He has conducted research projects on Venice, Rome, Naples, London, New York, Chicago, the route of the Casbahs in Morocco, Angkor in Cambodia, the desert of Atacama in Chile, India, Patagonia, Easter Island, China, Yemen, Iceland, Iran, and Lapland.
