In May 1997 three teenage musicians struggled their way through a cheering throng at the Paramus Park Mall in Paramus, New Jersey. Surrounded by fans chanting "Hanson! Hanson!" the trio made its way to a makeshift stage. As Ike, Taylor, and Zac began singing "MMMBop" the crowd went wild, shrieking, waving, and singing along. The three young brothers had burst onto the pop scene a few months earlier with the release of their first single, "MMMBop," which quickly shot to the top of the charts. A video of the single aired on MTV and was followed by their debut CD, "Middle of Nowhere, " clinching their success. Interviews, talk-show appearances, MTV performances, and more videos quickly followed. For these young boys, it was a long way from Tulsa, Oklahama, where they began their musical careers. As young children, Ike, Taylor, and Zac, encouraged by their parents, had played and sung together. They soon performed locally and began recording their own songs. With their wholesome image, great harmonizing, and melodic blend of hip-hop and rock 'n roll, the band captured audiences young and old. In 1996 Mercury Records signed the boys, and Hanson was on its way to becoming a worldwide pop sensation. Although fans around the worlds idolize Hanson, the boys are modest about their phenomenal rise to stardom. Ike says they are just doing what they love and having fun doing it. And their fans are having fun watching and listening.
