This book describes the life of an exchange professor as she lives and works as one of the first Westerners to teach in the formerly closed city of Linfen, Peoples Republic of China. She also provides case studies about the Cultural Revolution and its aftermath through the eyes of her Chinese colleagues sent down to the countryside in the 1960s.
