Dr. Galanakis' research targets the separation and recovery of functional macro- and micro-molecules from different food wastes and by-products, as well as their implementation as bioactive compounds in food and cosmetics. He co-owns a chemical laboratory (Galanakis Laboratories, Chania, Greece) where he has worked as an analyst for more than 10 years, and as research and innovation director since 2012. His current research is dedicated to the analysis of food, beverages and environmental samples. He also consults for related industries and local producers. Dr. Galanakis has served on the editorial board of Food Research International since 2012 and as an expert for National Center of Science and Technology of Kazakhstan since 2014. He is the founder and manager of Food Waste Recovery Group (SIG5) of ISEKI Food Association (Vienna, Austria). Dr. Galanakis has previously edited "Food Waste Recovery: Processing Technologies and Techniques" (http://www.elsevier.com/books/food-waste-recovery/unknown/978-0-12-800351-0), published 12 August 2015. He is preparing 3 more book projects for Elsevier entitled: "Innovation Strategies in the Food Industry: Tools for Implementation", "Nutraceutical and Functional Food Components: Effects of Innovative Processing Techniques", and "Olive Mill Wastewater: Recent Advances for the sustainable management of olive oil industry".
