A Thousand Rainbows gathers a new body of photographic work by Lia Chavez (born 1978) that explores the nature of interpersonal and spiritual relationships through the manipulation of light. This volume reproduces 22 images from the series and discusses the science and mysticism behind her art.
Lia Chavez is an internationally exhibited visual and performance artist who lives and works in New York City. Focusing on themes of illumination, embodiment and becoming, her practice incorporates a diverse range of media with an emphasis on performance-generated photography. Her work has been exhibited at the 52nd and 53rd Venice Biennale; The Armory Show, New York; 10th Istanbul Biennial; Frieze Art Fair, London; Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), Atlanta; and Af?rmation Arts, New York.
