Joanna Margaret Paul's tragic early death in 2003 robbed us of a major poet, the scale of whose achievement was only fragmentarily grasped even by her admirers. Bernadette Hall has worked through Paul's legacy of artist's books, small press publications and manuscripts to present her work in full for the first time. Following a three-part structure that had been established by Paul herself in early notes towards a selected poems, she gives us 75 luminous poems.
Joanna Margaret Paul was a poet, painter, and experimental filmmaker. Her work in the visual arts was exhibited at the City Gallery Wellington in 2004-2005 and her drawings, Subjects to Hand, were exhibited at the Mahara Gallery in 2006. Bernadette Hall is a poet, a playwright, literary editor, and the 2006 Writer in Residence at Victoria University of Wellington.
