This book is an English translation of Don Juan Valera's novel "Morsamor". Obscure, insignificant, and nearing death, Friar Miguel of Seville longs for the excitement of the Age of Exploration. An alchemist-priest gives Friar Miguel a potion whereby he becomes the dashing young adventurer Morsamor (death-love) who explores the globe and the heart. Shipwrecked after the many entertaining exploits, Morsamor reverts to his alterego, the dying Father Miguel, who ponders the reality and meaning of his adventures while struggling for the purity of his soul.
Robert G. Trimble is Professor Emeritus of Spanish and Protuguese at Hanover College.
