About the Author
Lawrence D. Longo is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Physiology, and Biochemistry, School of Medicine, Loma Linda University, Loma Linda, California. Although working as a basic scientist, Dr. Longo has published a number of articles on nineteenth-century obstetrics and gynecology. In addition to several volumes on fetal physiology, Dr. Longo has published A Short History of the Society for Gynecologic Investigation, 1953-1983 (1983); ""Charles White and the Evolution of Ideas Concerning the Etiology and Prevention of Puerperal Fever""; Introduction to A Treatise on the Management of Pregnant and Lying-in Women by Charles White (1987); and with T.K.A.B. Eskes Classics in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Innovative Papers That Have Contributed to Current Clinical Practice (1993). His latest book, with Philip M. Teigen is ""Dearest G..., Yours W.O., ""William Osler's Letters from Egypt to Grace Revere Osler (2002). Currently, he is completing a volume Robert Patterson Harris of Philadelphia: The ""Statistical Method"" and the Evolution of Cesarean Section.
