In order to solve a particular motion control problem the engineer is initially faced with the task of selecting an appropriate power transmission medium. This is frequently followed by modelling and simulation of the proposed solution in concert with control system analysis and design. The process involves both synthesis and analysis and, in some instances, can be particularly challenging to the engineer. This text covers all aspects of this power transmisison and motion control with particular emphasis placed on current international research and development.
