About the Author
SOPHIE ADKINS was a keen pony clubber representing the Isle of Wight at inter Pony club competitions, and, in later years, the University of Lancaster as a member of their riding team. She won the Junior Whip class at the BDS show in 1986, and was awarded the Harpers & Queen scholarship in 1987. Having gained valuable driving experience with John Parker, Sophie then spent her gap year in the USA with John Fairclough's coaching team. Sophie is a BDS judge and is also closely involved with the junior members of the BDS. CAROLINE DOUGLAS began her driving career at the age of 8 driving a donkey. In her early teens she was successful in the show ring winning the Langdon Dowsett junior trophy in 1971. In the early 1970s Caroline successfully drove her mother's pony team both in the show ring and at driving trials. She became the youngest person ever to be elected to the BDS judge's panel at the age of 19, and became a driving trials judge in 1975. Caroline has also enjoyed a successful ridden career in both eventing and dressage. Along with her judging commitments she is also a BDS examiner, lecturer and teaches in England and abroad.
