His research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the Hewlett Foundation, the Albert Einstein Institution, and the American Sociological Association. His many publications include Contesting Patriotism: Culture, Power and Strategy in the Peace Movement, Social Conflicts and Collective Identities, and A Revolution of the Heart: Essays on the Catholic Worker. He has served as the Series Editor of Research in Social Movements, Conflicts and Change since 2000.
