Acclaimed sporting writer Michael McIntosh calls this classic book, perhaps his most well known, "a celebration of the gun." It captures the gun as a complex, fascinating combination of form and function - told, as always, in McIntosh's relaxed, conversational style. The first part is about the art of guns and gun making, and the second section is devoted to the art of shooting.
A former English professor and Shakespearean scholar, Michael McIntosh was also widely known as one of the best-known gun and sporting writers in the world. His writings appeared in numerous shooting and gun-dog magazines and he wrote more than a dozen books, including A.H. Fox, Wild Things, Robert Ruark's Africa, and Best Guns, one of the most popular shotgun books ever written. He died in 2010.
