About Author

M. V. Nadkarni is an economist and avisiting professor at the Institute for Social and Economic Change. Deshpande is the director of the Institute for Social and Economic Change in Bangalore, India. He is also a former professor and the head of the Agricultural Development and Rural Transformation Center at the institute and the coauthor of "Agrarian Crisis and Farmer Suicides" and "Glimpses of Indian Agriculture.""
