Swiss Made, now available in paperback, features work by twelve of the most celebrated Swiss architects and the most internationally influential figures in contemporary architecture. An essay by Steven Spier presents an overview of Swiss architecture and considers the cultural attitudes that have fostered such refined buildings, while Martin Tschanz assesses the Swiss tradition of integrating design, local building techniques and engineering that is unlike anywhere else in the world. The work of each architect is shown via a profile and three to six projects, documented through plans, drawings and photogaphs specially commissioned by renowned photographer Christian Richters.
Professor Steven Spier has been Dean of the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture at Kingston University London since September 2012. Previously he was head of the School of Architecture and Design in Belfast after being the founding Vice-Chancellor of a new university of the built environment and metropolitan development in Hamburg: the HafenCity University. He has also been head of the School of Architecture at Strathclyde University in Glasgow. Martin Tschanz is a practising architect and the author of numerous books on the subject.
