DescriptionThis title juxtaposes two comparable authors from vastly different cultural and national backgrounds to show that the influence of certain literary techniques spans the globe. Both Tawfiq al-Hakim and V.S. Naipaul make extensive and elaborate use of symbolism to reflect their visions of life. Indeed, it is the skillful use of symbolism by these two authors that strikes universal overtones. Hakim and Naipaul use archetypal symbolism extensively which was researched in both of their writings, and both authors allude to various mythologies, cults, folklore patterns as well as Jungian archetypes. Both modify archetypes to project a critique of the modern societies in which they live.
