Police psychiatrist Dr. Andrew Collins (Cobb) relates the story of how he came to leave his job as a professor and start working with the police. While Collins and his wife are entertaining a group of family and friends, escaped murderer Al Walker (Holden), his girlfriend, Betty (Foch), and their gang break in to their holiday cabin and take everyone hostage.
