The Heart of Hunting sets out to capture the essence of the hunting experience in New Zealand, by reflecting not only on hunting itself, but on the experience of wilderness that is so key to this cherished activity. The writer, Greig Caigou, combines storytelling and meditations on many aspects of hunting, all of which is based on the premise that wildlife is truly understood, and often deeply appreciated, through the eye of a hunter. Integral to the book are the wonderful wildlife photographs of Matt Winter, whose motivation is always to celebrate wild animals in their natural environments.
GREIG CAIGOU is self-employed, working within the adventure, leadership and educational fields. He writes as a columnist for NZ Hunter magazine as well as other periodicals and social network forums. This is his third book on hunting and wildlife. Greig lives with his wife Marijke in Nelson, where it's a privilege to be on the doorstep of the South Island backcountry, and he is always keen to be in the hills with pack and rifle. Greig is also growing an interest in photography and digital movie making. MATT WINTER is currently working in the pest control industry around the top of the South Island. He thrives on the privilege of being able to spend his working days 'out on the hill' amongst nature. He is a regular columnist for NZ Hunter and Wilderness magazines as well as contributing to outdoor social network forums. His high-quality wildlife, bird and natural landscape photographic work is gaining in popularity and demand. All the birds and animals that Matt photographs are truly wild and completely free range.
