This book is a revised edition of "Joan of Arc: Heretic, Mystic, Shaman", published by The Edwin Mellen Press in 1986. The original edition (ISBN 0-88946-532-0) is still in print and available from the publisher. Only this revised edition is available on trade discount terms and includes a new introduction. Much has been written about Joan of Arc in French patriotic historiography and in Catholic apologetics, but not by feminist scholarship. This book examines the topics which reveal how Joan lived as an autonomous woman in 15th-century France.
Anne Llewellyn Barstow, an independent scholar, earned her Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Old Westbury.
