The ability to selectively attend to events in the world around us is a core cognitive function. It prevents distraction and enables humans and animals to dedicate perceptual, cognitive, and motor resources to deal with the most pressing current challenges. About Author

George R. Mangun is the Dean of Social Sciences, and Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience at UC Davis. He is a world authority on the brain mechanisms of attention, and a leading figure in cognitive neuroscience. Dr. Mangun has published and lectured widely on brain attention systems, and is well known for his innovative promotion of integrated electrophysiological and brain imaging methods to study the mechanisms of attention.
