Amelie Lamont has been burdened much of her life - with the care of her alcoholic father who is now dying of cancer and her mother passing away when she was just a child. After her father's passing, Amelie leaves Paris behind and heads for the bright lights of London in the hopes of finding a job and earning enough money to continue her education.
Down on her luck - hope comes in the form of Carolyn Blakely who finds Amelie homeless. Single after her husband left her, she asks Amelie to be her housekeeper. Soon Amelie becomes part of Carolyn's circle of friends who all work for the magazine, Exclusives - headed up by millionaire owner Ned Hawthorpe. Ned offers Amelie a job and a proposal of marriage that she just can't turn down.
Then, both Amelie and Ned are kidnapped and held in separate dark rooms. The kidnappers are looking for Ned's father to pay a ransom but days pass and nothing comes.
Who are her mysterious captors? And why does she soon feel safer here, than she had begun to feel with her husband Ned?
