A collection of exceptional poetry by 5th tor grade Lakota students of the Red Cloud Middle School on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. The historic school was founded in 1888 at the request of the great Chief Red Cloud of the Oglala Sioux. The poems enable readers to learn about the unique lives and heritage of these students, growing up in such distinctive circumstances and straddling cultures. The collection is compiled by a teacher at the school, working with the school administrators. It will also contain never before published artworks from S. D. Neison and other Native American artists.
Timothy P. McLaughlin is a teacher who has worked with Native American youth in several different school systems. Joseph M. Marchall III was born on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota. He is a historian, educator and craftsman and is author of numerous collections of essays, short stories and novels that are published in several languages worldwide. S.D. Nelson is a member of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe of the Dakotas. He is the author of three previous children's books.
