Description

Wireless Information Highways provides an excellent introduction and balanced coverage of the most important topics related to the methodologies developed to support data management in asymmetric communication environments. This book is based on a number of self-contained chapters and provides an opportunity for practitioners and researchers to explore the connection between various computer science techniques and develop solutions to problems that arise in the rapidly emerging field of wireless networks.

About Author

Dimitrios Katsaros received his undergraduate degree in computer science from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece) in 1997. He was born in Thetidio-Farsala, Greece in 1974. He spent a year (July 1997-June 1998) as a visiting researcher at the Department of Pure and Applied Mathematics at the University of L'Aquila, Italy. Currently, he is a Ph.D. candidate at the Computer Science Department of Aristotle University and is expected to acquire his Ph.D. degree in January 2004. He is the co-author of more than 10 articles in international journals and conferences. His research interests include Web databases, semistructured data and mobile data management. Dr. Alexandros Nanopoulos received his undergraduate degree in computer science from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece) in 1996 and obtained his Ph.D. (""Techniques for Non-Relational Data Mining"") from the same institute (February 2003). Dr. Nanopoulos was born in Craiova, Romania, in 1974. He is the co-author of more than 20 articles in international journals and conferences, also co-author of the monograph ""Advanced Signature Techniques for Multimedia and Web Applications"". His research interests are spatial and Web mining, integration of data mining with DBMSs, and spatial database indexing. Yannis Manolopoulos was born in Thessaloniki, Greece in 1957. He received his 5-year Diploma degree in Electrical Engineering degree and his PhD degree from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1981 and 1986 respectively. He has been with the Department of Computer Science of the University of Toronto, the Department of Computer Science of the University of Maryland at College Park and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Aristotle University. Currently he is a Professor at the Department of Informatics of Aristotle University. He has published over 100 papers in refereed scientific journals and conference proceedings. He is author of two textbooks on data/file structures, which are recommended in the vast majority of the computer science/engineering departments in Greece. He has served as PC member in a number of conferences such as SIGMOD, EDBT, SSD, ADBIS and ACM-GIS, whereas currently he is member of the Editorial Board of The Computer Journal. His research interests include spatiotemporal databases, databases for the web, data mining, data/file structures and algorithms and performance evaluation of secondary and tertiary storage systems.
