This book is written for early childhood educators, teachers, carers and parents of young children. Its goal is to answer frequently asked questions about teaching maths and providing simple, easy-to-follow guidelines on introducing and building on mathematical concepts in young children from birth to five. The information contained in this book is derived from a significant research project funded by the National Centre of Science, ICT and Mathematics Education in Rural and Regional Australia (SiMERR) and other research.
Robert Hunting is a Senior Lecturer in Mathematics Education at La Trobe University. His research interests include early mathematics learning, rational number learning, teaching experiment methodologies, teacher education and curriculum issues in mathematics education. Judy Mousley is Associate Professor at Deakin University. She has been involved in mathematics education research and teaching at Deakin University for 30 years. Bob Perry is Professor of Education at Charles Sturt University. His research interests include powerful mathematics ideas in preschool and the first years of school, educational transitions and preschool education in remote Indigenous communities.
