Gift a Gruffalo at WHSmith!

We're on a mission to improve early years literacy by getting more books into the hands of children who need them. In conjunction with the National Literary Trust and Macmillan Children’s Books, we are launching our new campaign - Gift a Gruffalo to help provide young children with the communication skills they need to thrive!

From the 23rd of May we will gift a copy of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s award-winning - The Gruffalo for every Gruffalo-named book sold in all WHSmith stores or online at WHSmith.co.uk.

With his knobbly knees and turned-out toes, The Gruffalo is a truly unforgettable character and along with his woodland friends makes for a wonderful introduction to the magical and enriching world of children's literature.

To further support this amazing charity, customers will also be able to donate money at any WHSmith High Street store across the UK at the till point or online at https://literacytrust.org.uk/support-us/fundraising/gift-a-gruffalo-book/

All funds raised through these donations will go to the registered charity National Literacy Trust to support the charity’s ongoing work with schools and disadvantaged children in socioeconomically deprived areas in the UK.

Terms & Conditions

This donations campaign is organised by WH Smith High Street Limited (company number: 06560339) whose registered office address is Greenbridge Road, Swindon, Wiltshire SN3 3RX (the “Promoter”).

Selected WHSmith High Street stores will be accepting monetary donations for the National Literacy Trust (registered charity no. 1116260) from Thursday 23rd May 2024 until Thursday 5th September 2024.

Donations can be made through WHSmith High Street manned or self-checkout store tills. Customers donating in store will be able to donate by cash or card as their payment method and select their donation amount within their transaction before the payment stage.

All donations made through WHSmith High Street manned or self-checkout store tills shall be transferred to the National Literacy Trust to support their work with schools and children in socio-economically disadvantaged areas in the UK. .

The donations made to the National Literacy Trust through WHSmith will fund resources including free books for those children who are unlikely to own one, and additional vital literacy support for children and families in disadvantaged areas in the UK

For every copy of a book from the Gruffalo book range purchased at WH Smith High Street Stores or Travel stores and on www.whsmith.co.uk, WHSmith will be donating a copy of ‘The Gruffalo Picture Book’ to children who may not be able to afford to buy their own copy. These donated books will be distributed to children and families via the National Literacy Trust’s UK networks, which include their regional Hubs and campaigns, links with schools and other community groups. Donations are currently capped at 20,000 but this will be reviewed.

Any promotions in store or online relating to ‘The Gruffalo’ are subject to availability. Any discounts offered on the books are taken off the recommended retail price or cover price (RRP).
