Faruk Birtek was born in Istanbul. He studied Economics at Cambridge and Sociology at Berkeley. He taught at the universities of Yale and Bogazici. He was a visiting faculty at Bielefeld (Germany) and Michigan (Ann Arbor). He was a senior visiting fellow at Collegium Budapest in 2012. Currently he is a Professor Emeritus at Bogazici University. Paul Gatsby Laszlo was born in Budapest. He is a senior sociologist and historian. He lives in Budapest and in the Austrian Alps.
