Exclusive to WHSmith, The Richard and Judy Book Club is back with six great new titles from our favourite book-loving couple to get us reading, thinking and talking about books this season. This latest collection of titles marks a milestone for the Book Club, reaching its 200th novel selected by Richard and Judy.

We're delighted that our current spotlight title is currently End Game by David Baldaccu. Will Robie is a US government full-time assassin, an accredited hit man who travels the globe to eliminate enemies planning terrorist attacks and mass murder. Together with his partner, Jessica Reel, he solves unimaginable crimes, however this time even if he succeeds, he knows the worst is yet to come. He knows he has one chance to get this right, one chance to save the city.

Richard describes the book: "Put a government assassin with a deadly sniper, throw in a terrorist plot to detonate a powerful bomb on the underground, add a twist and you have Baldacci’s latest bestseller. Fast, taut, and unputdownable."

We're thrilled to announce that Laura Purcell's The Silent Companions has been voted the winner of the WHSmith Thumping Good Read Award 2018. Our guest judges, Jojo Moyes and Peter James, and you the public agreed that this chilling ghost story was the clear winner. Purcell's gothic novel follows Elsie, a newly married, newly widowed who heads to The Bridge, a long neglected country estate of her husband's family. She and the staff start to experience some strange going-ons including the moving of wooden 'companions' around the house, one of which is the striking resemblance of Elsie.

Winning author Laura Purcell said: "It's a delight and an honour to win this award in the year of its return, particularly against such a wonderful shortlist. I'm over the moon that The Silent Companions managed to hook both the prestigious judges, whom I greatly admire, and readers alike."
