Richard & Judy Review The Guilty Couple by C. L. Taylor

Richard & Judy Introduce The Guilty Couple by C.L. Taylor

Revenge is a dish best served cold – especially after serving time. Olivia has just been released after five years of incarceration. Her crime? Planning to murder her husband. But she always swore her innocence and now she’s free she’s sworn to have her revenge on the man who framed her – her husband. A proper page-turner right from the off.

Richard's Review:

Miscarriages of justice make for lousy reality for the unfortunate few but terrific fiction for the rest of us. And C L Taylor makes the most of her opportunities in this genuinely gripping, switchback of a tale that never lets up.

Five years ago, Olivia Sutherland was jailed for plotting to murder her husband. She should never have been convicted: he framed her. It was a complete setup and the five years Olivia spent behind bars are years she will never get back.

So now she’s out, there’s a score to settle. Quite a few scores, actually. Olivia has three non-negotiable goals. Rebuild her relationship with her 12-year-old daughter, Grace. Restore her name and reputation. Take oh-so-sweet revenge on her scheming, lying, and, as we are to discover, remarkably dangerous husband.

Judy's Review:

Olivia’s action plan isn’t exactly helped by the fact that husband Dominic is having an affair with a cop, Dani. Nor that if she puts a foot wrong on the outside she’ll find herself back on the inside before you can say ‘clang’.

Then there’s Grace. Taylor writes this aspect of Olivia’s crusade for justice sensitively. All little Grace knows when her mum re-appears is that Mummy wanted Daddy to be dead. Forgiveness will not necessarily flow now that Mummy’s done her time. This is sensitively handled.

But there’s lots of good-old-fashioned blood-pumping stuff too. The scene when Olivia and a supportive accomplice break into the home she once shared with Dominic, and in her agitation Olivia mis-enters the alarm code, is gripping – one of many great heart-in-the-mouth moments.

A cracking, unpredictable thriller with an ending that doesn’t disappoint. Enjoy.
